5-Star Hotel

This hotel holds a special place in my heart, and I actually have a story for you all. This hotel used to be in my family. My memaw on my Mother’s side owned this hotel. When I was growing up, I spent many summer days here with my whole family. We all got to live our little dream of being “Suite Life of Zack & Cody” before the show even started. My cousins and I would run in and out of the kitchen, trying all sorts of food since the head chef was our uncle. We would make up dance routines for the guests out on the front lawn and hang out with all the lifeguards and sit in their tall beach chairs.

The hotel is located in the town of Watch Hill, a stunning beach town in Rhode Island. Only a short walk down the hill from the hotel is a beautiful, town famous carousel. Now, this is no ordinary carousel, it is more like a game. Each child seated on the outside horses is to reach over when they are nearing the special metal ring machine. They grab a ring and place it on their horse’s ear. Whoever gets the golden ring wins a token for a free ride. This was one of my favorite things to do in Watch Hill as a kid, and after we would go to the cute little restaurant next door and eat ice cream and grinders (the word for a sandwich in Rhode Island).

The hotel is very historic but recently was purchased by a new owner after my memaw passed. The new owner tore the historic hotel down to rebuild it into what it is now. It is still beautiful, but we do all miss the original. Not to mention but my cousin recently got married in the beautiful church across the street (the same one my parents were married in and where I was baptised), and we took stunning pictures at the Ocean House after.

** Not to forget, but about 5 houses down the road from the Ocean House is Taylor Swift’s house - so maybe if you stay here you might get lucky and spot her!
